Common Rules

These are the general rules that consist of both etiquette and general behavioral guidelines. All of these are rather common sense, but they should be said, to provide a formal recognition of the rules. Below are the links for General Behavioral Rules and for General Writing Etiquette.

Common Behavioral Rules

    1. Respect others. The golden rule; this rule is really self-explanatory and needn't be said. Give others the respect you wish to receive; be especially courteous to the staff.

    2. Do not spam the forum. This means that if you're posting an essay or a story or whatever, with the exception of the designated Spam Areas (The Lounge), you're to keep decorum and post only when needed. There's always the edit button. Members are asked to fill out the reasons for editing form below the box for your post.

    3. Images. As you've probably figured out, the members have the ability to post images as their avatar and signatures. For both, we ask that you consider the ascetics of the site, and do not use images that will expand the forum's width. If you don't know what this means, you'll be sure to recognize it after you do it. A recommended image size for an avatar is 100x100; a recommended image size for a signature is 350x150.

    4. Posting appropriately. Although this doesn't explain the rules about content (see below post), this focuses on where to post. Please don't post a piece of fiction in the non-fiction section or a piece of prose in the poetry section; below each forum is a short description of what should be posted within the forum. Keep this in mind.

    5. Accounts. There should only be one account per user, and the username should be some variation of the user's actual name. Since this forum is geared towards students of HHS, there should be no problem. The staff will know if one person is using two accounts because of the IP Address; if there are extenuating circumstances, such as family members and one computer, a middle ground can be reached, just contact the staff.

    6. Please don't comment on other people's works if they don't ask for it. This includes, but isn't limited to, posting in the story's actual topic and please do not PM (Private Message) the author derogatory comments.

    7. Cursing. Please do not use excessive cursing. Within your works, there are moderate swears allowed, such as damn or crap. Other, more severe ones, are not to be tolerated.

    8. Arguments. Do not engage in a fight with other members at all costs; if there are problems that need to be addressed, please go to the staff immediately.

    9. Copyright. Do not copy someone's work as your own or manipulate it in any way or portray it as your own. Specifically, the copyright rules can be found here.

Common Writing Etiquette Rules

    1. Content. Although you're free to write about whatever you want, there are certain limits that must be upheld. There is to be no sexual content whatsoever and there should digression on sexual themes.

    2. Do not spam the forum. This means that if you're posting an essay or a story or whatever, with the exception of the designated Spam Areas (The Lounge), you're to keep decorum and post only when needed. There's always the edit button. Members are asked to fill out the reasons for editing form below the box for your post.

    3. Length. Although there's no set word count, realize that there should really be a piece of prose that's only 10 words. Not only does it clutter up our forum, but it's also annoying. There are special circumstances, like critiquing quotes.

    4. Readability. Please make sure that use run your work through a spell checker and do your best to make sure that the grammar is good. For those who are posting fiction and want critiques, people generally like legibility; the same is said for non-fiction - we're here to help you get better, that doesn't mean you give us crap to make diamonds with. You have to put in the effort as well.
